Doctor’s Chamber of Republic of North Macedonia
The Doctor’s Chamber of Republic of North Macedonia is an independent professional organization of all doctors in Republic of North Macedonia.
The Doctor’s Chamber functions as a legal entity and represents the interests of all doctors of medicine that are members of the Chamber.
The Doctor’s Chamber aims to protect and to promote proficiency, ethical duties and rights of the doctors of medicine, as well as their reputation, integrity and professional interests. The Chamber stands for promotion of the overall medical profession and its proper and honourable practice. The Doctor’s Chamber provides an organized approach for the doctors of medicine before the state organs, the Health Insurance Fund and submits recommendations and suggestions for organization of all levels of health protection and the system institutions, all in best interest of the citizens and the doctors of medicine.

History
The Doctor’s Chamber of Macedonia has been founded on the 5th of June 1992 on initiative of a several doctors from the Macedonian Medical Association.
The first constitutional assembly has been held in the premises of the Hospital of the Army of Republic of Macedonia. Following the introduction speech of Prof. Dr. Jovan Tofovski and the saluting speech of the President of Republic of Macedonia, Kiro Gligorov, the delegates have adopted the Statute and the Medical Code of Ethics and elected the organs and the bodies of the Chamber. Prof. Dr. Aleksej Duma has been elected President.
First Constitutional Assembly of the Doctor’s Chamber of Macedonia
At the beginning, the doctors of medicine and dentists have both been members of the Doctor’s Chamber of Macedonia. Later, in the year 1995, the dentists, established a separate, their own Dental Chamber.
The Doctor’s Chamber of Macedonia is a successor of the former doctor’s chamber that existed on these territories in the third decade of the previous century in the Kingdom of Jugoslavija. The head office of the chamber that covered the area of the Vardar territory was in Skopje. The doctor’s and the dentists have both been members of the chamber as a condition to perform their professional practice. The membership fee was paid at the local offices or at the municipality police stations.
Authorizations
In accordance with the Law on Health Protection, the Doctor’s Chamber is authorized to:
- Issue, renew, extend and terminate the working licence of the doctors of medicine
- Keep records of issued, renewed, extended and terminated licenses of the doctors of medicine
- Perform a professional supervision of the work of the healthcare institutions as well as of other establishments that perform medical practice and of the healthcare workers.
Professional supervision
The professional supervision is being carried out for the purpose of control over the medical practice, following the protocols, assessment of the professional practice and the health protection performance.
The regular professional supervision over the work of the healthcare workers has been carried out according to the annual plan for a professional supervision approved by the Minister of Health. The intermittent professional supervision is being carried out upon a written request and an appropriate documentation submitted by a patient, a member of the patient’s family and the state organs.
The professional supervision encompasses validation of the information stated in the supervision order, review of the professional practice of the doctors of medicine by insight in the medical records and interviews, assessment of the following the provisions from the Ethical Code and Deontology by the physician in his/her medical practice and checking the validity of the licenses and certificates for trainings in diagnostic and therapy procedures performed by the doctor. Based on this, a record is made on the performed professional supervision, a professional opinion is stated based on the established present state and appropriate measures are proposed as a conclusion of the supervision procedure.
