The President of the Doctor’s Chamber, Prof. Dr. Kalina Grivcheva – Stardelova and Dr. Deniel Popovski, member of the Executive Board of the Chamber have attended the General Assembly of Standing Committee of European Doctors – CPME, held on 22nd and 23rd of March 2024, in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The event included numerous sessions for elaboration and discussion of current topics that affect the doctors and the healthcare systems all over Europe. The focus of the events and the sessions was the significance of the preserving the independence of the medical profession, resulting in adoption of a common statement of all participants.
Dr Valentina Prevolnik Rupel welcomed delegates focusing on Value-based Health Care. The Minister emphasised that the Slovenian healthcare system is faced with an aging population and, as a result, ever-increasing needs and costs of healthcare. Value-based care is intended to measure treatment outcomes and then, based on analyses, introduce changes in treatment processes.
The statement highlights the increasing challenges that the independence of the medical profession faces across Europe. This causes a threat to doctors, patients and society as a whole if independence is not safeguarded and reinforced. Independence is confirmed as being key in making patients’ right to health a reality and safeguarding the highest quality of medical practice and autonomy.
The sessions included discussions on electronic health record systems that are to be an everyday clinical practice tool for doctors. The stand was that these electronic health record systems must be designed in a user-friendly way to support healthcare professionals in their tasks and reduce current administrative work.
A presentation of the 2023-25 Healthy Workplaces campaign ‘Safe and healthy work in the digital age’ of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) was held that further triggered the discussion on digital solutions as part of the healthcare work.
